USE VOCAL VARIETY TO SPICE UP YOUR SPEECH!
Here is a video I made about giving a speech in public so that your audience is actually interested and caring about it. I know you have been to business sessions where the presenter stands in front of the audience and reads something in a monotone or gives a speech from memory but it is truly boring and does not capture your interest. If you are speaking in public, wouldn’t it be nice to get invited back again sometime? Well, that doesn’t happen unless you are interesting and you can’t be interesting if you speak in a monotone.
So, adding vocal variety to your speech helps enormously. Speaking louder or softer or changing the pace or just pausing are the four main techniques to use when giving your speech. In the video below, I give an example of what not to do, how to vary your speaking voice and then, most importantly, how to prepare so that you do it all with ease.
Take a look. And then try those techniques out for yourself.

Are you just starting out as a new speaker to groups? Intimidating, yes? Like anything, it is always scary to try something new and much more difficult if you have no training or guidelines to follow. Public speaking can be a joy if you have the confidence to do it. And confidence comes from understanding the basics. That is our mission here.
Many people have overcome their fear of standing in front of a group of business associates or classmates and delivering a crisp and effective speech … and you can too!
This website is devoted to helping new speakers learn the basics of public speaking so that their presentations are smooth and achieve all the right results. Here are a few secrets to making a great presentation:
1) Outline your speech but don’t memorize it. Use note cards sparingly and only list key points that you want to make. You want your speech to sound natural; as though you were simply talking to some friends.
2) Rehearse your speech a minimum of five times before delivering it. It’s fine (in fact it is GREAT!) if you say things differently each time. As long as you cover your main key points in the speech, you are achieving what you need to do.
3) Organize your speech well. Have an attention getting opening. Tell your listeners what you are going to discuss. Then use the body of the speech to hammer home 3 or 4 points and then summarize those points at the end. So, tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them and then tell them what you told them.
4) Stay on time. Someone has a schedule to keep and you need to keep your presentation brief and to the point.
We’ll talk more about many other Secrets and Tips for effective Public Speaking in much more detail in the articles to come.
